  Margapati

Between 1925 and the early 1950s Balinese choreographers created a number of new dances for women in Kebyar style. Kebyar Duduk, which was performed brilliantly by Mario and later by a series of his students, remained popular for male dancers.

Some of the many compositions for women were Margapati (King of the Lions), Wiranata (Brave King), and Yudapati, (King of Battle). In all of them the female soloists presented male character studies similar to those of Kebyar Duduk.

These forms survive today. In none of them is the difficult squat-walk of Kebyar Duduk to be found, but in style they are pure Kebyar.
