Kintamani Village
Kintamani is located on the lip of a volcano, and is home to the second ever tourist hotel ever built in Bali. The market here is a bustling place where the local mountain farmers sell their vegetables, and is open on Hari Paseh, which occurs every three days according to the Balinese calendar.
Just a bit further along on the ridge road you will find Pura Ulun Danu Batur, a dramatic temple complex dedicated to Ida Bhatari Dewi Danu, the goddess of the lake. It is the waters of Lake Batur that irrigate and provide sustenance for the entire eastern part of Bali, and the temple here is maintained by the local irrigation societies called subak. This temple is particularly beautiful when heavy fog rolls in, and the eleven tiered goddess temple is shrouded in mist. The nights here are cold but it is well worth rising early to witness the spectacular sunrises on the very roof of the Island of the Gods.
